Order Lepidoptera
Moth Tineola bisselliella
It’s the larvae doing the damage, not the moths you actually see — clothes moth larvae work quietly through wool, carpet and stored fabric in wardrobes and lofts long before an adult moth ever takes flight, so by the time there’s visible damage several generations may already be established. Stored-product moths are a separate problem on the region’s grain and feed stores around Mildenhall and Ely, where warm, undisturbed sacks and silos give them exactly the conditions they need.
Domestic cases usually come down to a thorough inspection and targeted treatment of the affected fabric and its surroundings; store and silo infestations are treated as a full fumigation job, the same whole-space approach we use for other stored-product pests.
