Seasonal activity
Order Hymenoptera
Common wasp Vespula vulgaris
By mid-summer a common wasp nest can hold several thousand workers, and nests in eaves, lofts and wall cavities become genuinely dangerous to disturb. Treatment is quick — usually a single visit — and covered by our fixed-price wasp nest service.
Nests start small in spring as a single queen builds the first few cells, then grow fast through summer as workers take over foraging and construction. By August a mature nest can be the size of a football, which is also when the colony turns defensive — why late-summer callouts are by far the most common.
“By August a mature nest can be the size of a football.”
