Grey squirrel Sciurus carolinensis

Grey squirrels get into loft spaces through soffit gaps, damaged fascia and old vent covers. Once they’re in the loft, wiring and timber are what’s at risk — they gnaw both as readily as they gnaw wood, a genuine fire risk rather than just a noise nuisance overhead. Wooded edges around Thetford and Brandon see some of the heaviest pressure, but any loft with a weak point is at risk.

Trapping deals with the squirrel that’s already in; proofing the entry point is what stops the next one taking its place, so we treat the two as one job rather than a trap-only visit that leaves the loft just as vulnerable as before.

“Once they're in the loft, wiring and timber are what's at risk.”
